one more song before i go

almost forgot all about this song. the bliss of random shuffle listening.

someone's knockin on my kitchen door
leave the wood outside
what
all the girls here are freezing cold
leave me with your borneo
i said
i don't need much to keep me warm

don't stop now what you're doin
what you're doin my ugly one
bring them all here
hard to hide
a hundred girls in your hair
it won't be fair if i hate her
if i ate her

you can go now
you can go now

you're already in there
i'll be wearing your tatoo
yes
you're already in there

got a cloud sleeping on my tongue
he goes
then it goes
and kiss the violets
as they're waking up

leave me with your borneo
i said
leave me the way i was before

but
you're already in there
i'll be wearing your tatoo
yes
i'm already in

circles and circles and circles again
the girl's in
circles and circles and circles again
the girl's in
circles and circles and circles again
the girl's in
circles and circles and circles again
the girl's in
well

someone's knockin on my kitchen door
leave the wood outside
what
all the girls here are freezing cold

you can go now
you can go now
you can go now
you can go now

you're already in there
i'll be wearing your tatoo
you're already in there

thought i was over the bridge now
over the bridget now
i'm already in

circles and circles and circles again
the girl's in
circles and circles
got to stop spinning
circles and circles and circles again

circles and circles and circles again
the girl's in
circles and circles
got to stop spinning
circles and circles and circles again
well

it must be a musical monday

or maybe i am just too tired to not think in lyrics. this is one of those songs by one of those artists that i tend to skip over more often then listen. sometimes listening connects you differently, and sometimes a song kind of says how you feel about life -- right now -- as you are living it.

how about getting off of these antibiotics
how about stopping eating when i'm filled up
how about them transparent dangling carrots
how about that ever elusive kudo

thank you india
thank you terror
thank you disillusionment
thank you frailty
thank you consequence
thank you thank you silence

how about me not blaming you for everything
how about me enjoying the moment for once
how about how good it feels to finally forgive you
how about grieving it all one at a time

thank you india
thank you terror
thank you disillusionment
thank you frailty
thank you consequence
thank you thank you silence

the moment i let go of it was
the moment i got more than i could handle
the moment i jumped off of it was
the moment i touched down

how about no longer being masochistic
how about remembering your divinity
how about unabashedly bawling your eyes out
how about not equating death with stopping

thank you india
thank you providence
thank you disillusionment
thank you nothingness
thank you clarity
thank you thank you silence

thank you ~ alanis morissette

lucy.
tonight you stooped to my level,
i am your mangy little whore,
now you’re trying to find your underwear,
then your socks, and then the door.

and your trying to find a reason
why you have to leave.
but i know its cause you think you’re adam
you think i’m eve.

you rhapsodize about beauty
my eyes glaze
everything i love is ugly
i mean really, you would be amazed.

just do me a favor,
it’s the least that you can do.
just don’t treat me like i am
something that’s happened to you.

cause i am,
i am truly sorry about all this.

you put a tiny pin prick
in my big red balloon,
and as i slowly start to exhale,
that’s when you leave the room.

and i did not design this game.
i did not name the stakes,
i just happen to like apples
and am not afraid of snakes.

but i am,
i am truly sorry about this.
and i envy you,
your ignorance.
i hear that its bliss.

so i let go the ratio
of things said to things heard,
as i leave you to your garden,
and the beauty you preferred.

and i wonder what of this will have meaning
for you when you’ve left it all behind.
i think i’ll even wonder
if you meant it at the time.

adam & eve ~ ani difranco

sometimes i forget how much ani difranco’s music moves me. how i can stumble onto a song i may have never heard, or truly listened to (because there is a difference between hearing and listening), and suddenly it hits me fast and hard like an unexpected car crash somewhere on the open road in the middle of the night; i never saw it coming.

adam and eve, especially the line just don’t treat me like i am something that’s happened to you, resonates with me and reminds me of a past relationship, and how i was defined at that final exit sign, as we both said our goodbyes.

top five: mirror mirror on the wall

from top five monday: top five songs about mirrors (or reflections).

1* mirror in the bathroom ~ english beat

mirror in the bathroom
please talk free
The door is locked
just you and me.

2* nightswimming ~ r.e.m.

the photograph on the dashboard, taken years ago,
turned around backwards so the windshield shows.
every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse.
still, it’s so much clearer.

3* lucretia, my reflection ~ sisters of mercy

i hear the sons of the city and dispossessed
get down, get undressed
get pretty but you and me,
we got the kingdom, we got the key
we got the empire, now as then,
we don't doubt, we don't take direction,
lucretia, my reflection, dance the ghost with me

4* rearview mirror ~ pearl jam

saw things
clearer
once you, were in my
rearview mirror

5* black mirror ~ the arcade fire

i walked down to the ocean
after waking from a nightmare
no moon, no pale reflection
black mirror, black mirror

a little late, but the sentiments of march are still intact.

the ninth installment from the list of my favourite 100 singles from the 1990's:

as a reminder, this project is limited to songs that were released as singles, and not necessarily my favorite choice from the artist. also, i have made a pact that i would not repeat an artist in this list.

also, some videos in this entry are fanvids, because sometimes i find them kind of keen.

onward...

roll the window down and sing your songs to the night (in no significant order)Collapse )

the model home episode. jules and i sat on the couch and remarked how we had forgotten about this episode. i love the similarities between seth and marissa, and how shocked seth is by it. how it makes perfect sense, as they both become the most integral people in ryan's life. the ridiculous things that happen in this episode did not go unnoticed. ryan and marissa on the bike, with seth on his skateboard alongside of them, going to the biggest hangout of all the characters when ryan is being searched for by the police. but, this is a nighttime soap, and i buy into the suspension of disbelief -- just as i accept redondo beach as part of orange county, which it is not.

i love the cohens. i think sandy cohen is tied with graham chase as father's i wish were mine.

more good music in this episode; better than the pilot, actually. i am not all that fond of the peter gabriel cover. it actually makes me cringe inside trying to listen to it. but, it does have one of the best cover songs ever, jeff buckley's hallelujah.

california ~ rufus wainwright
i'm a terrible person ~ rooney
caught by the river ~ doves
in your eyes ~ aaron d
hands up ~ black eyed peas
do it with madonna ~ the androids
hallelujah ~ jeff buckley
we're going out tonight ~ shady lady
brand new jones ~ thicke

you learned a hard lesson
when you stood by the water
you and i were so full of love and hope
would you give it all up now??

almost forgot how much i loved the beginnings of the o.c.. how much i loved the drama and the music, and the completely non-realistic view of life in orange county (at least not the orange county i grew up in). i forgot how much i love seth cohen. and how much i love a lot of the music.

thanks to soapnet i am re-living my oc obsessions, and thought i would share a bit of it with you. come along as i go through the episodes, and the music. seth cohen wants you to.

california ~ phantom planet
sweet honey ~ slightly stoopid
all around the world ~ cooler kids
swing swing ~ the all-american rejects
hands up ~ black eyed peas
i'm a player ~ kgb
show me ~ cham pain
into dust ~ mazzy star
honey and the moon ~ joseph arthur

the last two are my favourites. thank you, traces, for quoting lyrics from the last song yesterday and reminding me how much that song meant to me.

but right now
everything is turning blue,
and right now
the sun is trying to kill the moon,
and right now
i wish i could follow you
to the shores
of freedom
where no one lives
